Experience the Power of Drums & Voice

Sometimes i frown, but then i have learn to smile

Hi, my name is Ron Carter I am a storyteller, historical reenactor, poet, drummer, and author dedicated to preserving African and African American history and culture. Through first-person historical narratives, poetry, and interactive performances, I bring history to life in engaging and meaningful ways.

Skilled in African and Afro-Cuban drumming, I blend rhythm, storytelling, visual art, life experiences and my cultural traditions to educate and inspire audiences of all ages. My works connects history, music, and spoken word to promote cultural awareness, community engagement, and the power of storytelling.

African storytelling traditions are important because they preserve history, teach values, and strengthen community bonds. Before written records were common, stories were passed down orally by elders and griots, who shared knowledge about ancestors, culture, and important events. These stories helped keep traditions and languages alive across generations.

Socially, storytelling brought communities together through music, rhythm, dance, and audience participation. It taught lessons about respect, courage, honesty, and cooperation while entertaining listeners.

Culturally, African storytelling reflects the beliefs, customs, and daily lives of different African societies. Many stories use animals, heroes, or trickster characters to explain human behavior and moral lessons. Historically, these traditions also influenced literature, music, art and storytelling styles around the world, especially in African American culture and other parts of the African diaspora.

Storytelling is the heartbeat of humanity. Every culture has carried its history, values, and dreams through the spoken word. Though the voices, languages, and traditions may differ, the purpose remains the same—to remember, to teach, to inspire, even to entertain and to connect. Storytelling is a sacred art that deserves honor, respect, and preservation.  Storytelling is a universal tradition that transcends cultures, preserving history.  Storytelling is a living tradition shared by every culture around the world. It preserves history, passes on wisdom, celebrates identity, and connects generations. As a universal human practice, storytelling deserves to be recognized, honored, and respected in all its forms.

About Ron's Workshop

My Journey

I'm a performer and storyteller from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania living in Killeen, Texas contributing vibrant, rhythm-driven theatrical experiences that combine drum and voice. Steeped in diverse cultural tales, I aim to ignite the spirit with energy and hope.

My Mission

To craft powerful, engaging drum performances that inspire and connect audiences, while highlighting the expressive power of voice and rhythm.

My Vision

To inspire others to embrace their creative talents in the arts, creating a vibrant community of performers who express emotion, rhythm, and voice to captivate and energize audiences. I have rebuilt my life from scratch during multiple moments so many times, in trying to be an example by looking adversity in the face, picking up the pieces while keeping it moving forward with the support of a higher power, a source greater than me.
